She pulls away from the light, tires chirping from too much power under the hood, too little weight on the rear axle and too much Tony Lama on the go pedal. She likes this car. It makes her feel good. It's her favorite new fashion accessory. It's a goddamn rocketship is what it is -and the two of them are a perfect match.

The car's actually owner -the poor chump with his name on the pink slip and her gas card, is her second favorite accessory -"accessory" used here in the legal sense. Unfortunately, Nora Blaine's aforementioned questionable taste in men has the frequent effect of these apes getting their fingers burned trying to touch the flames. Then they invariably do something stupid.
