- Rom, Print & Other Stuff: NASA 1998-2002
A virtual walkthrough of the 10 NASA centers. I designed the prototype for this project
at the end of the production cycle for Lost Worlds, (a similar project I had just
finished with the contractor, Seismic Entertainment). We buttoned it up, burned a
CD, sent it off to NASA and didn't hear a thing for about a year and a half. Then
one day I got the call. "NASA has approved our funding!". Of course the
original Project Manager, Kate Kilbourne and Programmer, Todd Goldenbaum were no
longer available. We started with a fresh team, and I started cranking out the pieces
in 2001, finally finishing the project in the summer of '02.
When I did this originally, I thought this was going to be a kiosk.
We thought it was going to take too much bandwidth for the web. Ironically, it took
so long to get funding that broadband kicked in and larger bandwidth has caught up
to the point that this actually seems reasonable! There are about 22 hot spots on
this opening page and they all have rollover states. Seemed insane at the time. No
big deal now...
